Open house planned at URI’s Feinstein College of Continuing Education

KINGSTON, R.I. — November 8, 1999 — It’s never too late to learn at the University of Rhode Island. URI’s Feinstein College of Continuing Education will hold an open house to discuss its wide selection of undergraduate course offerings and programs that makes returning to school easy. The open house will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the college, located at 80 Washington Street, Providence. To register, call 401-277-5162. Walk-ins are also welcome. Attendees can learn about the large variety of classes, including those designed to help ease the transition back to school. Information about classes using the latest technology such as e-mail and distance education that can be applied toward a bachelor’s degree will be available. The Prior Learning Assessment course, through which returning students can receive credit through previous knowledge and experience will be explained. Information about professional development courses and workshops, in addition to student services, peer counselors, tutors, academic advisers and on-site, pre-school and kindergarten education will also be available. Information about the college’s ALTER program, tailored for the senior community and offered on both URI’s Providence and Kingston campuses, can be obtained. Students become versed in the stages of adult development theory and learn such skills as how to use the Internet and write memoirs. In addition to the current programming, a new section of ALTER designed for people from 35 to 50 will be offered during the spring semester. The classes are designed to enhance the quality of life by understanding its journey. Financial aid and scholarship information will be accessible.
