The Jan. 10 course, “Smart Technologies for Irrigation Management,” will focus on emerging technologies to improve irrigation management. Attendees will learn about management devices, how and where to install them, and practical applications. Basic math skills are needed.
The Jan. 11 course, “Advanced Irrigation Design for Water Conservation,” is geared toward irrigation designers, contractors and water purveyors. The course emphasis is on water conservation in the landscape through better irrigation design skills. Recommended prerequisites include basic irrigation design skills and intermediate math skills.
Marion Gold, director of the URI Cooperative Extension Education Center, said it is important that more professional landscapers acquire knowledge about water-saving irrigation systems.
“More and more communities are enacting restrictions on watering landscapes and gardens,” said Gold, “and professional landscapers who get their training now will have an advantage when conservation laws become more widespread.”
Both courses run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Plant Sciences Center, Building 75, and the course fees include manuals.
