New undergraduate scholarships available
at URI Providence Campus

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — October 29, 2001 — Thinking about going back to school, but don’t think you can afford it? Relax. The University of Rhode Island’s Alan Shawn Feinstein College of Continuing Education at the URI Providence Campus has set aside a pot of money to fund scholarships for new adult students who enroll at the college for the spring semester.

Scholarships are also available for current ASF-CCE students to help ease the financial burden of trying to fund an education.

Funding for the new scholarships comes from a recent donation to the school by Cranston philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein. The scholarships will fund one undergraduate course and possibly more.

Recipients of the scholarship are required to perform 30 hours of community service. The college can provide assistance in locating community service opportunities for students who do not have a specific organization in mind.

The college awarded Feinstein scholarships totaling nearly $100,000 for the fall semester. Those scholarships helped 105 Rhode Island men and women further their education.

Applications for the new scholarships are now available by contacting the Student Service Office at 277-5000 or by accessing www.uri.edu/prov/scholarships_app.html. Deadline to apply is December 1.
