KINGSTON, R.I. — February 19, 2013 — The University of Rhode Island’s Women’s Center will present the touring Family Diversity Projects exhibit, “IN OUR FAMILY: Portraits of All Kinds of Families,” Feb. 25-March 8. An opening reception at 4 p.m. on Feb. 25 will feature Sociology Professor Helen Mederer, whose research and teaching focuses on the family.

Free and open to the public Monday through Friday, from 12-4 p.m., the Women’s Center is located at 22 Upper College Road, Kingston Campus.

The “In Our Family” photo-text exhibit presents photographs by Gigi Kaeser with interviews edited by Peggy Gillespie and Rebekah Boyd. It celebrates the diversity of family life in 21st century America. The exhibit introduces viewers to images and stories about single-parent families, families living with physical or mental challenges, immigrant families, adoptive families, foster families, divorced families, gay and lesbian-parented families, step-families, multiracial families, multi-generational families, and many others in the family circle.

“In Our Family” travels to schools, colleges, public libraries, workplaces, places of worship, conferences, museums, and communities nationwide. The exhibit is championed by diversity professionals, families, educators, parents and others interested in educating the public about diversity.
