Magnitude of job gains in R.I. ‘surprise’ URI economist

Current Conditions Index shows state’s recovery began early last year


WHAT: Current Conditions Index values for all of 2010 were substantially higher than what the existing data throughout last year had led people to believe. The new data point quite clearly to a change in the date for the beginning of Rhode Island’s current recovery from June 2010 to February 2010. The index for January 2011 was 67, with eight of the 12 indicators improving, and another strong performance from employment service jobs, which rose 2.8 percent.
