Lecture is part of Honors Colloquium series on RACE

KINGSTON, R.I. – September 16, 2010 –Tony award-winning and Law & Order actor B.D. Wong will give the first Harrington School of Communication and Media Lecture at the University of Rhode Island Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium, 64 Upper College Road, Kingston.

His talk, All the World’s a Stage: Race and Identity, is part of URI’s ongoing colloquium, which is exploring the key issues of race. The semester-long series, free and open to the public, is intended to foster and further ongoing, public dialogs about race.

Wong plays forensic psychiatrist George Huang on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He is also known for his role as Father Ray Mukada, the compassionate and tireless Catholic priest in the controversial HBO series Oz. He has guest starred on such popular and diverse television shows as the X-Files, Sesame Street, and Chicago Hope. He appeared in the HBO film And the Band Played On.

His is in the cast for the musical Bruce Lee: Journey to the West, targeted for a Broadway launch in 2011. Wong’s theater performances have earned him numerous awards including the Outer Critic’s Award, Theatre World Award, Drama Desk Award and the coveted Tony.

While he doesn’t consider himself an activist per se, Wong has been recognized for his work as a prominent Asian-American citizen, helping to conquer some of his community’s unique challenges.
