The 6th Annual Vangermeersch Lecture offered by URI’s College of Business Administration will confront the most pressing issues facing Rhode Island head on with the help of following panelists:
• R.I. Public Expenditure Council Executive Director John C. Simmons. He’s served as the City of Providence’s Chief of Administration; the City of Boston’s Chief Finance Officer; executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Associated Industries of Massachusetts; and the State of Rhode Island’s Deputy General Treasurer.
• Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce President Laurie White ’81. She’s the chief staff executive for Rhode Island’s largest business association. Her specialties include communications, economic development policy, strategic planning, and corporate governance.
• CEO of Bridge Technical Solutions Joe Devine ’83, ‘90 MBA. Before purchasing Bridge Technical Solutions, he held senior management positions at AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Electro-Films, Inc., and Mupac Corporation.
• Region President of Massachusetts and Rhode Island at Verizon Communications Donna Cupelo. She has overall responsibility for Verizon’s service delivery, capital investment, and public policy in both states.
College of Business Administration Dean Mark Higgins will moderate the discussion. Free and open to the public, the 6th Annual Vangermeersch Lecture will be at Swan Hall Auditorium on the Kingston campus April 18th, a Thursday, at 5:30 p.m.
The Vangermeersch Endowed Lecture was established in 2008 with a $20,000 gift from Deborah Ciolfi in honor of her former accounting professor, Richard Vangermeersch, who retired in 2004 after 34 years of teaching at URI. Ciolfi is the founder and CEO of Providence Investors LLC, a privately held business advisory and asset management firm with offices in Boston and Providence.
