Homecoming events offer community chance to Experience Rhody

KINGSTON, R.I. – October 7, 2011 – The University of Rhode Island invites its alumni, students and the URI community to Experience Rhody during Homecoming Week, Oct. 17 through Oct. 23.

From the traditional football game – this year against Delaware (Meade Stadium, 12:30 p.m.) – to the new-look Rhodyville, with two large tents filled with vendors and University groups – there will be fun and activities for the whole family.

“We wanted to provide the University community with an all-encompassing experience,” said URI Homecoming Committee Chair Michelle Fontes-Barros. “The events offered all week will provide a wide range of activities for people with all different interests.”

The look of Rhodyville provides a subtle, but important change. In previous years, it consisted of a tent village in front of Mackal Field House. This year, it will be large tents with a wide variety of vendors, plus areas for alumni groups to gather.

“With the new look, it’ll provide more of a festive atmosphere, with different things to do in a closer area,” Fontes-Barros said. “It will help bring people together, rather than spread everything out.”

Throughout the week, there are alumni reunions, student organization activities, the annual Homecoming 5K Rhode Race, Rhody Rally, musical concerts and the Distinguished Achievement Awards. To view the full listing of events and times, visit the 2011 URI Homecoming Weekend website.
