Golf tournament planned in memory of 9/11 victim

Proceeds to benefit URI students

We would like to tell you about “Chris’ Chance,” a memorial golf tournament to benefit a scholarship program, which will help URI students studying German or accounting. The event offers URI alumni a chance to help this worthy cause.

The outing will be held July 30 at the Wild Turkey Golf Club in Hardyston, N.J. The event was created in the name of Christian L. DeSimone, a 2000 alumnus, who died on September 11, 2001 when a hijacked plane hit Tower One of the World Trade Center. Chris, a forensic accountant at Marsh & McLennan, was at work on the 100th floor. He was 23.

His family and friends have established a foundation in his name to honor Chris, an honor student who was a linebacker for the Rams football team. The foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarship awards for URI and other students and passing on the opportunity Chris left behind.

There are several ways that you can help support the event: by becoming a sponsor (varying levels, including hole sponsor, golf package sponsor, etc.), by posting an advertisement in the event brochure (varying levels), by participating in the event (either as a golfer or non-golfer) or by donating something to the silent auction.
