KINGSTON, R.I. -February 6, 2008- Virginia Maxwell, a professor at the University of New Haven, will discuss, “Glass and Soil” Feb. 15 at the University of Rhode Island’s Forensic Science Seminar.

The event will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Pastore Hall, 51 Lower College Road, Room 124 and is free and open to public.

Maxwell works with the Connecticut State Crime Laboratory where her expertise is in trace evidence. Some cases where there is little to no DNA evidence, trace evidence, such as glass and soil, are used to link the victim, suspect and crime scene.

Maxwell earned a doctorate in physical chemistry from Oxford University and completed a fellowship at the Royal Military College of Canada. She worked as a cancer researcher for the Yale University School of Medicine until 1991 but left and pursued her current career in the Trace Evidence Department of Connecticut laboratory. She also teaches at the University of New Haven.
