URI was also selected to host two Fulbright Visiting Scholars during the same time frame.
Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, with additional funding from participating governments and host institutions. The program’s purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.
Meenakshisunder Venkatesan, a URI professor of business administration, spent the fall semester lecturing at the Indian Institute of Technology Chennai, Chennai, India. His lectures focused on internationalizing services, marketing, and management.
Nasser Zawia, an associate professor of pharmacy, is spending this academic year at Sana’a University, Sana’a, Yemen, where he is lecturing about lead exposure and researching exposure to lead in elderly Yemenis.
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Benxian Li, a professor in the School of English Studies at Xi’an International Studies University, Xian, China is spending the academic year at URI. His research is entitled: “Americans’ Renditions of Classic Chinese Novels: A Cross-Cultural Communicative Approach.”
The other Fulbright Visiting Scholar at URI, Tung-Ching Lin, a professor in the Department of Information Management, National Sun Yat-sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan is researching the role of social capital and organizational knowledge in enhancing entrepreneurial opportunities.
