KINGSTON, R.I. — September 13, 2006 — The Fenner Hill Country Club will be the site of a golf tournament on Sept. 22 to bolster the Carl W. Myllymaki Scholarship Fund. Administered by the URI Foundation, the scholarship is awarded to deserving Westerly High School graduates who will attend URI, and ROTC graduates from URI entering the Army. They receive a set of Army dress blues.

Myllymaki graduated from Westerly High School in 1961, went to URI and was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968. His high school class established the scholarship in his name.

The tournament will be held rain or shine and will start at 1 p.m. The cost is $110 per golfer and includes a round of golf, a cart and a roast beef dinner. On the day of the tournament, each golfer will receive a gift bag and a raffle will also be held at dinner.

The tournament committee is comprised of: Richard Smith, Harold Panciera, Jeff Myllymaki, Matthew West, Paul Ceresa, Robert Sisco, Nick Stenhouse, Roy Larson, and Phil Chiaradio. The committee seeks $100 donations to sponsor each hole. Signs will be displayed on the golf course recognizing the sponsors.
