Friends of Oceanography Lecture Explores the Impacts of Climate Change

Friends of Oceanography Free Public Lecture Explores the Impacts of Climate Change Narragansett, R.I. — March 21, 2000 — Friends of Oceanography at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography invite the public learn about “Living in a Changing Climate” in a free lecture given by global change scientist, Dr. Lynne Carter. The lecture will be held on Thursday, March 30, at noon in the Coastal Institute Auditorium on the URI Narragansett Bay Campus. The presentation will focus on the potential impacts of climate variability and change and how humans are adapting to climate change. A resident of Slocum, Rhode Island, Carter is the former Director of the Office of Global Change at the University of Rhode Island. She now serves as the Regional Liaison for the National Assessment Coordination Office of the U.S. Global Change Research Program. This program was created as a Presidential Initiative in 1989 and formalized in 1990 by the Global Change Research Act of 1990. Since that time, global change research has remained a key science initiative. This lecture is free and open to the public. Friends of Oceanography is a community-based membership organization established in 1986 to support the educational and public programs of the URI Graduate School Oceanography.
