WHO: URI Diversity Week keynote speaker, Pedro Noguera, Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education at New York University. Noguera is a professor and sociologist in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University.
WHAT: A discussion on “Creating the Opportunity to Learn” as part of the University of Rhode Island’s Honors Colloquium, “Public Education, Everyone’s Right? Everyone’s Responsibility?”, and URI’s Diversity Week.
Noguera’s lecture, “Creating the Opportunity to Learn” will examine how to eliminate the achievement gap and create schools where a child’s ethnicity or social class does not determine how he or she performs in school. Those unable to attend the lecture can watch it live online URI Live!
