Directions for Rhode Island Language Excellence to be presented

WHAT: Public announcement of recommendations and first steps for implementation of the Rhode Island Roadmap to Language Excellence.


WHO: Key stakeholders from the Rhode Island business, education, and government sectors, who developed the Roadmap. The initiative is supported by The Language Flagship, an initiative of the Defense Language and National Security Education Office, in collaboration with the University of Rhode Island. Deborah A. Gist, Commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and URI President David M. Dooley, as well as several advocates from the corporate and public sectors, and alumni of bilingual education programs, will speak at the event.


WHEN: Friday, June 8, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.


WHERE: Rhode Island Statehouse, State Room, 82 Smith St., Providence, R.I.


WHY: The R.I. Roadmap to Language Excellence provides strategies to position the State of Rhode Island as a leader in the global economy by leveraging the linguistic and cultural potential of its citizens to improve services within the state and to fuel economic development.
