Dean Ebrahimpour named National Chapter Advisor of the Year by professional business fraternity

KINGSTON, R.I. – Sept. 18 – Maling Ebrahimpour, dean of the College of Business at the University of Rhode Island, has been named the National Chapter Advisor of the Year by the professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi.

The honor is awarded annually to the advisor who has excelled in service to the fraternity and the local chapter. Ebrahimpour has served as advisor to Delta Sigma Pi’s Phi Chi Chapter at URI since before the chapter was officially installed in April 2017.

“Delta Sigma Pi is a great organization that provides business students with the help to grow personally and professionally,” said Ebrahimpour. “I take great pride in my association with the fraternity, getting to know and work with students while they are at URI. I’m deeply honored by Delta Sigma Pi’s recognition.”

Ebrahimpour was nominated by former Phi Chi Chapter District Director Jen Huynh, who is now the fraternity’s New England regional vice president.

“Since the chapter’s inception, Dean Ebrahimpour’s support and dedication have been evident in the chapter’s success this year,” said Huynh. “His ability to connect the Phi Chi Chapter to opportunities on campus is greatly appreciated.”

In working with the chapter, Ebrahimpour has offered university service opportunities to members, which has allowed the chapter to increase its recognition on campus. He has also encouraged members to attend national fraternity educational events, and helped them find ways to raise money to attend.

“Ebrahimpour takes time to get to know students, often mentoring them individually,” an award announcement noted. “He meets with chapter officers as a group at least once a semester and regularly meets with the chapter president.”

Ebrahimpour was selected by the fraternity’s National Scholastic Development and Awards Committee from a group of five provincial winners across the United States. Other provincial winners were: Daniel L. Tracy of the University of South Dakota, Michael S. Luehlfing of Louisiana Tech University, J. Kirk Atkinson of Western Kentucky University, and Carolyn Shiery of Concordia University.
