Dancing with the Stars to video performance for upcoming season
KINGSTON, R.I. – August 29, 2008 – Comedian Jeffrey Ross will bring his biting brand of humor to the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium.
URI’s Student Entertainment Committee is bringing Ross to campus as part of the University’s Welcome Week. As an added bonus, film crews for the ABC show Dancing with the Stars will be on hand to film Ross, one of 13 contestants in the upcoming season of the popular ballroom dancing show.
Known as “The Roastmaster General,” Ross has delivered memorable performances on the Comedy Central roast specials of various celebrities. In recent years, he has roasted the likes of William Shatner, Hugh Hefner, Pamela Anderson and, most recently, Bob Saget. Ross also had his own comedy special, “Jeffrey Ross: No Offense – Live From New Jersey,” which premiered on Comedy Central in August.
During his URI performance, Ross and the crowd will be filmed by crews from Dancing with the Stars for background footage of Ross for the upcoming season of the hit show.
Ross will join 12 celebrities on the seventh installment of Dancing with the Stars. He will compete against actresses Susan Lucci and Cloris Leachman, actors Ted McGinley and Cody Linley, singers Toni Braxton and Lance Bass, socialite Kim Kardashian, chef Rocco DiSpirito, retired football star Warren Sapp and Olympic gold medalists Misty May-Treanor (beach volleyball) and Maurice Green (track).
In 2005, Ross directed Patriot Act: A Jeffrey Ross Home Film, a documentary that chronicled a group of comedians who performed for several groups of U.S. troops stationed in Iraq. Ross was one of the performers in the group, which was put together by comedian Drew Carey, himself a former marine.
Tickets are available in the Memorial Union. Cost is $10 for the general public, and $5 for URI students. Tickets will be available at the door the night of the show.
