Students encouraged to make PSAs about flu virus safety

KINGSTON, R.I. – September 15, 2009 – Want to win money while spreading the word about H1N1 awareness?

The University of Rhode Island’s College of Arts and Sciences is inviting all students to participate in a video contest on the H1N1 flu virus. Individuals or teams of students are asked to make a 30- or 60-second public service announcement that provides advice about H1N1. Students are encouraged to use information from health providers and health agencies regarding the virus.

Three cash prizes will be awarded, with $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. Entries will be judged by a panel of health and film experts and will be considered for Web cast and broadcast. Undergraduate entries may also be submitted to the Spring 2010 Visualizations Student Film Festival.

Video entries for the contest are due by 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, and should be put on a DVD that can be viewed on any DVD player. Entry forms for the contest can be downloaded from this release or picked up in Chafee Hall, Room 257. Download the form here.
