Christopher Hunter named associate dean of URI’s Feinstein College of Education and Professional Studies

Hunter has served for 22 years as faculty in URI’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

PROVIDENCE, R.I., July 13, 2020 – The University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein College of Education and Professional Studies announces the appointment of Dr. Christopher Hunter to associate dean, effective July 7.

Hunter currently serves as associate professor of civil and environmental engineering in the URI’s College of Engineering.

In this role, Hunter will administer academic, faculty and diversity affairs for the College. These duties include overseeing and supporting internal academic affairs, college committees, faculty-generated proposals, mentoring programs, curriculum graduate admissions and program accreditations, and issues of diversity and inclusion.

“Dr. Hunter’s recent experiences will give him great insight into the academic, administrative, and cultural aspects of the Feinstein College,” said R. Anthony Rolle, dean of URI’s Feinstein College of Education and Profession Studies. “His extensive academic leadership will help ensure that our degree programs and support services meet the needs of faculty and students in the continuous development of the Feinstein College course offerings, professional service, and community outreach efforts.”

Prior to joining URI, Hunter worked as a staff engineer for Harding Lawson and Associates in Bellevue, Washington; and for the King County Dept. of Public Works, Traffic and Planning Section, Seattle, Washington; and for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Hunter received a PhD and master’s degree in transportation engineering from the University of Washington; and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Morehouse College.
