at International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame KINGSTON, R.I. — October 11, 2000 — Nationally renowned sports artist Andy Jurinko and onetime Boston Braves’ pitcher Art Johnson will be among the guests at an exhibit of baseball art at the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame on the University of Rhode Island campus on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. The reception is free and open to the public. Entitled “Hallowed Ground — Ballparks Past and Present,” the exhibit includes 24 oil paintings and lithographs of baseball stadiums ranging from Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, Fenway Park and Braves Field in Boston, to such new venues as Camden Yards in Baltimore and Jacobs Field in Cleveland. Jurinko, whose paintings are currently on display at the Sports Museum of New England (Boston, Mass.) and at the National Baseball Hall of Fame (Cooperstown, N.Y.) in addition to the “Hallowed Ground” exhibit, will be available to answer questions about his work. Having played in many of the ballparks brought to life by the exhibit, Johnson, who pitched for the Boston Braves from 1940-42, will join the reception on his way to this weekend’s Braves Field Historical Association reunion in Boston, Mass. Both Jurinko and Johnson will be available for autographs. The “Hallowed Ground” exhibit, which has been displayed at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, is the product of Bill Goff, a former Manhattan art dealer who operates his sports art business, including the exhibit’s oil paintings and the lithographs, in Kent, Conn. The exhibit will be on display through the end of November.
