KINGSTON, R.I. – September 25, 2008 – How many credits will I be able to transfer? Can I receive credit for military service? How will I make the successful transition to the University of Rhode Island?
Students wanting information about transfer requirements should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission. At URI, the answers, and much more, can be found at the school’s Transfer Resource Center, where staff members welcome all inquiries.
The center fields inquiries year round, but this is a particularly busy time, as schools are making preparations for the spring semester. The deadline for applying for transfer to URI for the spring semester is Nov. 1.
To help those students looking for more information, the Admission Office is holding five transfer student information sessions over the next several weeks. Each session will be held in Room 318 of the Memorial Union on the Kingston campus from 3:30 until 4:15 p.m.
The dates for the sessions are:
• Tuesday, Sept. 30
• Friday, Oct. 10
• Tuesday, Oct. 14
• Tuesday, Oct. 21
• Monday, Nov. 10
There also will be a pair of online transfer Chat Nights in October. The chats will include representatives from the Admission Office, the Transfer Resource Center and students who have transferred to URI. The online chats will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Tuesday, Oct. 21. For more information on the chats, visit http://www.uri.edu/admission/chat.html.
In addition, the Admission Office and the Transfer Resource Center will host the University’s first-ever Transfer Day on Wednesday, Dec. 3, where students will be able to complete the admission process, meet with academic and enrollment services and tour the campus, all in one day.
As it approaches its first anniversary, the Transfer Resource Center is willing and able to lend a helping hand for students wondering if URI provides the best fit for them.
Since it opened before the start of the Spring 2008 semester, the center – located in Roosevelt Hall on the Kingston campus – has provided a centralized location with all the necessary resources for students with questions about transferring. Whether it is making contact with department chairs or learning about housing options, the center helps get students acclimated to their new surroundings.
Jessica Boisclair, coordinator of the center, and transfer counselor Jason Pelosi work with the transfer admission advisor, Debbie Suggs, to ensure that every potential transfer student makes a successful transition into URI. Most of the students who contact the center know what they need to accomplish, but are unsure how to go about the process.
“The personal contact we provide for transfer students is key,” Pelosi said. “When you come here, you have direct face time with people who will help you get through the process. We provide one-stop shopping for all the resources students need.”
