URI rally planned in response to Trump executive order on immigration

WHO: University of Rhode Island students, faculty, staff and the wider community.

WHAT: Resist and Rise Up, a rally to affirm community values of acceptance and inclusion and to communicate to all members of the University community that they have a right to be at the University, regardless of nationality or immigration status, and the community welcomes them. The event is being held in response to President Donald J. Trump’s executive order of Jan. 27, restricting immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries, suspending all refugee admissions for 120 days and barring Syrian refugees indefinitely.

Anyone attending the rally is welcome to speak. Organizers ask that interested individuals sign up to speak upon arrival at the rally and limit their remarks to one minute.

The event is the result of a grass-roots effort organized by students, faculty and staff opposed to the executive order and its implications.

WHEN: Wednesday, Feb., 1, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: In front of the Memorial Student Union, 50 Lower College Road, Kingston.
